Jane became interested in Soaps in 2009 and began to produce her own natural range in 2011. Having been to train in the UK and gained the necessary cosmetic safety assessments for both UK and Europe, began producing soaps and bath products from scratch here in Jersey. In December 2011 Natural Soy Wax candles were added to the product range and are now available in twenty different fragrances.
Jane makes all her products by hand. The soaps are made using an age-old method dating back to the 8th century when the Italians and Spanish created what we now know as soap.
Jane’s values are to use good natural ingredients and provide soap and bath products that are both enjoyable to use and a pleasure to give. The Soap Mill aims to produce a product that is not packed with harsh chemicals or unnecessary preservatives. Product labelling is clear and comprehensive.
The Soap Mill range includes natural soaps in bars of 90grams. These come in over a dozen varieties and include May Chang & Lime, Patchouli & Orange, Tea Tree & Evening Primrose, Luscious Lime & Shea and classic favourites of Lavender, and Geranium & Rosemary.
Bath Bombs and Bath Soufflés come in a handful of varieties as do Dead Sea/Epsom Salt Soaks. “Sea salts are a great product to add to a bath. Dead Sea Salts are amongst the finest salts available and contain no fewer than 21 different minerals” Jane says.
The Soap Mill produces a range of gift sets which make the perfect present. There is Lavender Fields, Garden Spa and Citrus Grove. Each of these perfect little gift boxes contains a soap, a heart shaped bath bomb, a mini bath salt and a bath soufflé. The boxes are hand decorated and have a blank gift tag.
Delivery of gift sets is also available within the island and delivery options to the UK are planned very soon.
The Soap Mill’s candle range has been popular since being introduced at the Spirit of Christmas Market in 2011. There are Tin candles, Votives and Tealights with Pillar candles and a few “special issues” on the way too.
One of the best bits of the business Jane says “is talking to customers and enjoying the positive feedback. People just seem to love the products and are genuinely interested in what we make. We use bright up-lifting colours in our packaging and it’s a real boost to watch peoples faces as they come over to our stall and take in the smells and sights” says Jane.”We always have samples on display and encourage people to pick up and smell the products”.
