The Liberation Brewery, in one form or another, has been a traditional ingredient of Channel Islands’ life for well over a century and its award winning beers brim over with genuine local flavour.
Our flagship cask ale, Liberation Ale, was one of the top-selling beers at the 2009 Great British Beer Festival at Earl’s Court, beating off competition from 450 beers from around the world; and it was voted the Champion Beer at the 2009 CAMRA Jersey Beer Festival.
The Head brewer, Paul Hurley, is a proud Jerseyman and his team at the brewery in Longueville, Jersey, use their expertise to ensure that every pint is not just a true taste of the islands but fresher than imported beers because of its local provenance. Liberation Brewery’s beers are available in selected Liberation Group pubs across the islands and also in free houses and many hotel bars.
Tours of the Liberation Brewery can be arranged by advance request. To see how our beers are brewed and to meet the people who brew them, email Paul Hurley at Paul.hurley@theliberationbrewery.com . Liberation Ale (4% ABV) The award-winning ale is a golden beer brewed with the finest Maris Otter and lager malt. Golding hops are used for bitterness, while Syrian Goldings and Hallertau Hersbrucker hops provide aroma.
Liberation Ale is a well-balanced and morish beer with a hint of citrus on the nose. It is the perfect accompaniment to seafood, pasta and salads and none more so than when local produce is used. It also goes extremely well with some of the Genuine Jersey mature and crumbly cheeses!

Blonde (3.8% ABV) A very light lager style beer brewed with Tettnang and Saaz continental hops to give a thirst-quenching subtle product ideal for the Summer month.
Rouge (4.5% ABV) A more robust flavoured ale that uses a blend of three characterful malts namely amber/chocolate/pale ale with the addition of another new variety of hops Summit promises to hit the heights in Autumn.
Noire (4.8% ABV) Another unique blend of Oatmeal stout malt and chocolate malt (with some actual chocolate added) and the presence of another new hop Galena is going to make this dark winter stout a real winner on those cold winter nights.
Christmas Ale (4.8% ABV) features all the ingredients you would expect to find in a Christmas pudding recipe. The recipe includes orange zest, mixed spice, raisins, currents and sultanas. The brew will be stored in casks which have been rubbed with Black Butter to allow the flavours to develop. The easy-drinking beer has a rich, ruby red colour and is especially good enjoyed with winter warming meals and mince pies.
Mary Ann Best (3.6% ABV) was born and brewed in the Channel Islands. She is a traditional best bitter which has been produced in the islands for more than 130 years. Brewed using a blend of the finest Maris Otter and Chocolate malts, this dark bitter ale has a pronounced chocolate character. The well-rounded bitterness is perfectly balanced by a floral aroma derived from English Fuggles and goldings hops and drinks fuller than its ABV would suggest. The brewery’s beers are part of Jersey’s rich history and heritage and brewing has continued uninterupted even during the First World War and the German Occupation from June 1940 to May 1945. By the 1970s Mary Ann was known as ‘ The beers that made Jersey Famous.’
Mary Ann Special (4.5%) is pale ale with a sweet, fruity taste with malty/biscuity undertones provided by the use of crystal malt. The balanced after-palate is of subtle fragrant bitterness provided by a blend of finest English and European hops. This beer has a full but rounded character.
