From an early age I have always been fascinated by aeroplanes and flight, especially when studying the Airfix artworks by Roy Cross and the paintings of Michael Turner, as well as the many comic book illustrations of aircraft by various artists.
Inspired by these artists, my leaflet displays various examples of my aviation and military vehicle drawings, ranging from WW2 German Panzer’s and aircraft to RAF Spitfires, Hurricanes and Lancaster’s. As an artist, I try to captivate you in the hope that you will marvel at the close detail of each work, from complete subjects to close ups alike, and find enjoyment from discovering something new each time you view my work.
My choice of media is predominately B type pencil and colour pencil based which I find to be very versatile and vibrant – especially in colour. My chosen media at the moment is black and white as I find that can get a high level of detail to the subjects being depicted. Subject matter ranges from: animals, aviation, land and seascapes, military, transport, cars, portraits and wildlife. Print ranges are available with original artworks available for sale (prices ranging from £150.00 to £250.00), as well as commissions, with commissioned costs ranging from £200.00 to £350.00 (including mounts and frame) for black and white artworks and for colour pieces depending on subject and duration. Artwork duration depending on subject ranges from 20 to 60 hours from start to completion.
I am always happy to discuss any aspect of my work, or any specific requirements that clients may have. Whilst military vehicles and aircraft remain my favourite subject matter, I am often asked to draw houses, buildings (incl Hotel fronts), cars, boats, pets, horses, portraits, people, glamour and landscapes plus any subject matter, all of which I approach with the same enthusiasm as I would for a tank or a Spitfire, assuring my clients of the best possible results.
I work from home and I specialise in black and white drawings as I have been able to refine my technique to what you see now as well as colour pencils using the 3 primary colours only and adding the black and white graphite pencils to add tone and depth. I returned to black and white as I was unhappy with the colour work as I couldn’t find the depth and detail I wanted. With the recent work completed last and this year the b/w style is very versatile and can encompass any subject, clients often ask me what I can do, I say from the work you see what do you want me to do for you?
I went ‘live’ last year exhibiting with Jersey Art Exhibitors Guild at the Jersey Pottery White Space last July, Grand Hotel in September, Art Centre in August / September and at Jersey Airport Arrivals Hall from October to December 2010. In 2011 I exhibited at Victoria Art Gallery in February and also in the first week of September, Jersey Art Exhibitors Guild Royal Square exhibition in May and at the Jersey Pottery White Space in April and August. I also had a very successful show, selling and displaying my work at the Jersey Arts & Crafts Festival in late September at the RJH Trinity Showground and I will be exhibiting at the Jersey Airport Arrivals Hall this December. I also recently joined the Guild of Aviation Artists in England as a Friend and after successfully submitting 4 drawings I have exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London in July (including a sale) and some of the work went to the Midlands Air Museum as part of the Guilds Midland Region Exhibition at Coventry. I have sold a large number of prints as well as original and commissioned work including a drawing of Concorde. 2011 has mostly been commission and request based encompassing aircraft, pets, horses, cars and colour plus black / white drawings of the Grand Hotel plus a commission from Jersey Airport of an aerial colour drawing of the Airport. I am hoping to start new aviation and military work later this year and next as well as new subjects ranging from cars to times past. I was also featured in Jersey Life, Jersey Weekly, WW2 Re-enactors and Military Machines International magazines this year. Not bad for someone who sees ‘Double’.
