Samantha produces knitted garments and accessories. Her aim is to be a responsible designer by using sustainable materials, making products that have a reduced impact on the environment. Creating knitted textiles using friendly fibers such as bamboo, soy silk, hemp, Tencel and Alpaca, all of which have their own qualities that benefit the environment.
Samantha Louise Davey graduated from London Metropolitan University in 2010 with a First in Textiles for Interiors and Products.
Many of the accessories and garments are made from Marino Bamboo Lace, which is bamboo blended with wool to make it very soft. Each garment starts as an un-dyed hank of yarn, it is then dyed by hand and balled. The yarns are dyed preferably using eco-friendly dyes. The yarn is then run through a standard knitting machine and then hand manipulated to create the interesting patterns and textures, which make the products unique.
The products made from 100% Bamboo have beautiful soft qualities which create interesting subtle textures and the weight of the yarn makes it hang elegantly from the body.
It’s the hand dying and the hand manipulation which makes these products one of a kind. Although you may get two pieces which look similar they will never be identical in pattern, shape or colour.
Samantha also creates bespoke garments or accessories. Custom made to the buyer’s specification, whether it be an item from the collection of garments tailor made for the customer or a new design made to the brief from the client.
These products can be brought directly from Samantha, details of the pieces and prices can be found on the website. Hopefully future collections will be in some small retail outlets.
