Fungi Delecti was set up in 1996 after carrying out specialized growing trials in conjunction with Plymouth University , to see if shiitake mushrooms could be grown in Jersey using traditional Japanese methods.
The mushrooms, which originated in Japan , are grown on oak logs, which are left for two years to incubate, before production of the fruit can begin. The mushrooms, although not certified, are completely organic and have far better taste and texture to the more intensively produced variety.
Today the company produces free range eggs, grows it own herbs and baby salad leaves, distributes other local produce to restaurants, hotels, shops and the Central Market as well as sourcing speciality foods from around the globe to meet the demand of Jerseys’ chefs and cooks who are always striving for that something new.
