'Creating a friendly community atmosphere' Rondels Farm Shop is situated near Sion along St Johns main road and is run by Richard, John and Barry Rondel who specialise in growing and selling Jersey Royal New Potatoes. The shop has recently been revamped and now offers a full range of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as many other traditional farm shop products. Most of the fresh vegetables are grown by neighbours that run small farm units and are picked fresh sometimes up to three or four times a day. Our father, Lewis, helps at the shop and is often found checking the quality of produce and chatting to customers from first thing in the morning to late in the evenings. If fact, many customers now refer to him as Arkwright from 'open all hours'. We have even persuaded our mum, Pam, to make Jersey Wonders and other cakes which are proving extremely popular. Quite often our grandfather, Jack, who is 92 years old, also makes an appearance and can be heard telling customers 'how farming used to be' and of many stories of farming during the war. Having been farming in Jersey for generations we are keen to play our part in making the Island a wonderful place to live for future generations. We can only do this by looking after our environment and as part of that we offer a 'bring bank' system for recycling articles such as newspapers, and clothes. Our next 'challenge' is to help educate children the importance of eating fresh fruit and vegetables. |
