The Jersey Oyster Company was formed in 1973 as “Le Société de Produits Ostréicole Jerrais” and the company has farmed shellfish on the east coast of the Island since those early days.
Oysters of all sizes are available throughout the year with the larger sizes being exported for consumers from mid-summer onwards. Our ‘summer’ oysters are especially sought after by the French supermarkets during the warmer months, when traditionally they would not normally eat them.
For the last two years the Jersey Oyster Company has successfully grown mussels from seed, these are called ‘Bouchot’ mussels, derived from the French method of growing them on wooden poles. The technique allows us to produce the finest quality mussels with a grit-free and distinctive sweet and succulent flavour. They are only on sale for approximately ten weeks, from July until mid-September. You can find more information about us, and details on preparing and storing oysters on our website www.jerseyoyster.com

Since year 2000 the Jersey Oyster Company has been by some distance the largest producer and exporter of oysters in Great Britain. Last year the Company exported more than 400 tonnes of oysters into France. Approximately 50 tonnes of these were branded and marketed as Genuine Jersey oysters. We also export oysters to Colchester and Whitstable in the UK.
In 2004 we sold more than 150 tonnes of mussels to fishmongers in Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney; in fact, the vast majority of mussels you find in Jersey restaurants come from the Royal Bay of Grouville where we farm them.
