They say every brewery produces beer with its own unique flavour and that means Jersey Best and Jersey Special are real “Genuine Jersey” products that you simply won’t find anywhere else. They are both produced in Jersey using local expertise and have been satisfying local drinkers for more than 30 years. They are currently produced under the watchful eye of the head brewer Paul Hurley at a brand new micro-brewery at Longueville in St Saviour, after Jersey Brewery moved from its traditional home in Ann Street in late 2004. The main challenge for Paul and his team was making sure the beer brewed in the new brewery tasted exactly the same as that produced in the old building. Paul has used his brewing expertise to produce two beers which have won a succession of Gold Medals at the International Beer Industry Awards. In total he has won seven medals for his beers since he became Head Brewer in 1994. Jersey Best is a 3.6% ABV dark coloured beer which is known for its distinctive “hoppy” flavours. In contrast, Jersey Special is a 4.5% light coloured beer which is less hoppy, and perhaps slightly sweeter. Brewing the beer locally means it always tastes fresher than the barrels imported from the UK. Jersey Brewery has been brewing locally since 1871 and is now producing up to five thousand barrels of Jersey Best and Jersey Special every year; that works out at a considerable 1,440,000 pints of Genuine Jersey beer every year! |
