Hamptonne Café specialises in traditional sweet and savoury Jersey dishes, delicious cream teas and mouth-watering home-made cakes.

Vraic BunsIt’s a place where visitors and locals can sample the Island ’s culinary heritage and where the emphasis is on local, naturally grown, seasonal produce. The café serves locally produced Genuine Jersey cider, wine and apple brandy, as well as beer, speciality teas and organic fair trade coffee – supplied by Bean Around The World.

Owners Louise and April have been making authentic Jersey Beancrock for seven years and were delighted when it was certified a Genuine Jersey Product last year. No self respecting foodie could visit Jersey without sampling their traditional casserole – served with delicious Cabbage Loaf and washed down with a glass of cider. With picnic hampers and outdoor eating in mind, they have also created a Beancrock Pastie and vegetarian option wrapped in home-made shortcrust pastry.

Diners can also enjoy Cabbage Loaf sandwiches. Nick named the ‘Long Jack’ the Jersey cabbage has been grown since the early 1800’s. Local bakers avoided blackening the bottom of their loaves by placing a cabbage leaf on the top & bottom of the dough. This produces a soft golden crust, delicious for sandwiches or served with homemade soups.

Also on the menu is Vraic Buns – a sweet cake made with yeast and raisins. These traditional Jersey treats derive their name from the occasion on which they were traditionally eaten and not from the ingredients! Vraic {seaweed} was an important resource in Jersey , used for fuel and fertilizer. Collecting the vraic at low tide was a job for the whole family and to keep up strength and spirits they would eat vraic buns washed down with cider .

When the weather is fair diners can enjoy a picnic in the apple orchard or relax in Hamptonne’s lovingly restored grounds.
