How to use the Genuine Jersey Logo

  • The Genuine Jersey logo is as published and ordinarily may only be reproduced in its standard colours (Pantone Blue 072C, Pantone Red 032C, Pantone Green 347C, Pantone Gold 873C) or rendered in monochrome. However, the logo may be reproduced in alternative colours to suit labelling or packaging designs subject to approval by the Management Committee. The logo may not be modified in any way and its copyright and conditions governing its use remain with the Management Committee. The logo is used by the Genuine Jersey Products Association under licence from the States of Jersey Economic Development Ministry and at all times remains the property of the States of Jersey.

  • The Genuine Jersey logo may be affixed (by printing, transfer or other appropriate method) to products provided such products have been approved by the management committee as qualifying under these terms and conditions as a Genuine Jersey product. The logo should not be used in advertising, point of sale, promotional literature and stationery except where it is shown in situ on a product or where it is used in conjunction with the phrase ‘A Member of the Genuine Jersey Products Association’. Any other application within an advertisement or promotion requires the approval in advance of the Management Committee.

  • The Genuine Jersey logo must not occupy more than 10 per cent of any given area on any one side of a package or product.

  • The Genuine Jersey Products Association will provide for its members point of sale material and rolls of adhesive labels of the logo at cost. Artwork for the use of the logo as part of a pack design or appropriate labelling will also be available at no charge.

  • Organisations based in Jersey and producing goods locally may apply to have their goods assessed as qualifying to carry the Genuine Jersey logo. Such organisations will, of the products are approved, become members of the Genuine Jersey Products Association.

  • In general, goods will qualify as being appropriate to carry the Genuine Jersey logo if they are:

    • designed and produced entirely in Jersey using local materials and skills;

    • designed and produced in Jersey using local skills but not necessarily exclusively of local materials;

    • produced in Jersey where a local component is the reason for the product being produced and using local skills in its production;

    • produced in Jersey with a discernible element that makes them recognisably distinctive and/or peculiar to Jersey;

    • produced, developed or reared in Jersey from imported stock but where local skill, husbandry or some other distinctive Jersey element plays the predominant role in production.

  • As a matter of course approval will be subject to a presumption of the highest quality compatible with the product profile and evidence being available that proves that quality control procedures are in place and maintained on a continuing basis. The Management Committee will reserve the right to assess such quality controls as and when deemed appropriate.
  • As a matter of course approval will not be granted to those products in respect of which the only process to which they are subject in Jersey is assembly of ready-made components and/or packaging and/or the only local component or ingredient (of a range of other components or ingredients) is water.
  • As a matter of course approval will not be granted in respect of products which do not conform to statutory requirements with regard to consumer safety.
  • Save in exceptional circumstances approval will not be granted to products using components or ingredients not of Jersey origin where such components or ingredients are available of Jersey origin .
  • The decision as to whether or not a product qualifies to carry the Genuine Jersey logo remains exclusively with the Management Committee whose decision is final and this body reserves the right to refuse any application. However, any organisation may appeal to the Management Committee on behalf of a particular product giving, in writing, the reasons for so doing. The Management Committee shall convene an Appeals Board drawn at random from members’ representatives not on the Management Committee and chaired by a member of the Trading Standards Service. This Appeals Board will be the final arbitrator in the matter.
  • Products qualifying to use the Genuine Jersey logo may be subject to annual review to ensure continuing compliance with these terms and conditions. The Trading Standards Service and the Merchandising Co-Ordinator shall also have the right to carry out spot inspections on behalf of the Management Committee to ensure that products continue to comply with the terms under which membership of the scheme was granted in the first instance.
  • Applications for membership of the Genuine Jersey Products Association are to be made on the appropriate form in the name of an organisation or individual who must be prepared to prove the qualification of the product(s) for application. Membership of the Association will only be granted where products currently exist. It is the product, not the producer, that is permitted to carry the logo and where a member introduces new products, separate application(s) must be made although no further subscription is payable.
  • Membership of the scheme will involve listing or categorising all products produced by the organisation that should qualify for inclusion. Membership of the scheme does not confer on every product produced by that organisation the automatic right to be classified as Genuine Jersey. The Management Committee may also request an applicant to furnish further or fuller relevant details as they may require and withhold any specific permit to use the logo (where the applicant is already a member) on a particular product if such further information is not forthcoming.
